Sumita Ghose is Founder and Managing Director of Rangsutra, a social enterprise that works to ensure regular work for rural artisans, especially women, through the creation of handicrafts and handlooms. Rangsutra engages both the community of artisans and the market for handcrafted products. Prior to starting Rangsutra, Sumita lived and worked closely with rural communities primarily in Rajasthan on issues of integrated community development, with a focus on women’s empowerment. Sumita has a master’s degree in Economics from Mumbai University and a master’s degree from Eastern Mennonite University where she was a Fulbright Scholar in 2001-2002. She is a recipient of the Nari Shakti Award, from the President of India, for her work related to the empowerment of women and rural artisans.
