Perla Macleod

Perla Macleod came to Canada in 2004 from Mexico. Her goal? To learn English. She became a Canadian citizen and settled in Big Baddeck, Victoria County, a rural community on the edge of the Highland Mountains in Cape Breton, NS. In 2016, she secured the District 2 seat of Victoria County, becoming the first female Councillor in twenty-five years. She is a fluent Spanish and English speaker. As a councillor, she has championed innovative initiatives. As co-chair of Victoria County Transit, a non-profit, dial-a-ride transit service – a first for Victoria County and as co-chair of the Local Immigration Partnership, where she can help those choosing to live on Cape Breton Island, as someone who once stood in their shoes.
